Lori Verni-Fogarsi

“You know that your life has become far too miserable when you can’t even recall what you’re doing versus what you’ve done.” ~ “Momnesia” by Lori-Verni-Fogarsi  (Brickstone Publishing, March 2012); 288 pages, $11.70)

Between running a successful cleaning service, raising two daughters, and trying to salvage the remains of a failing marriage with a man who refuses to admit he has some major issues, Lori Verni-Fogarsi’s main character in her debut fiction novel “Momnesia” is treading precariously above water, and the reality of her situation is threatening to pull her under. Struggling between what she feels obligated to do and what her heart tells her she should do, the unnamed woman has all but forgotten the woman she was before husband and kids, and has been moving through life on autopilot. But on the day she finds herself standing in the midst of a grocery store parking lot unable to remember whether she has been into the store or not (or if she has completed any of her day’s to-do list for that matter), she realizes it is time to take drastic measures. And when she finally does, she begins to discover the woman inside — sexy, fun-loving, sensual, lover of men, cocktails, and dancing — who was nearly forgotten years ago.

Verni-Fogarsi captures the essence of what it means to be in a woman, mother, businesswoman, wife, daughter, sister, and friend in this fun, sexy, all-moms-can-relate tale of one mom’s struggle to find balance in her life. Whether she’s cringing from the embarrassment caused by her husband’s inconsiderate and indifferent treatment of her, reeling from a friends betrayal, or relishing the attention she’s receiving from an attractive stranger at a local pub, Verni-Fogarsi’s main character’s will have mothers everywhere in her corner, cheering her on as she begins to discover a healthy compromise between her “momminess,” “sexiness,” relationships, and staying true to herself.

I’ve been there, am there, and am working hard through this blog and with the help family, old friendships, and new friends like Lori and Jackie to begin living a Momnesia-free life. And thanks to “Momnesia,” I have a few helpful tips on how to do just that, and now you can, too! My Momnesia moment I remember best is when I went grocery shopping one time, completely exhausted from my 2 kids (20 months apart) keeping me up most of the night, and when I returned home from the store, I forgot all the groceries in the car. Didnt remember or discover until the next day. And of course, it was summer, so it was hot, and my truck STANK!!!
