A cartoon woman hugging her computer screen with a big heart in the middleBlogging, I imagine, is much like smoking crack. Once you do it, it’s hard to stop.

Ever since my post last week, I’ve been jonesing to get back here. But Berkshire Family Focus takes up most of my days, and the kids and The Grinch are my focus in the late afternoons and evenings. So here I am at the crack (no pun intended) of dawn tucked into my cozy little home office engaging in the best (and least expensive) kind of therapy there is. Ahhh. I’m feeling better already.

It’s funny how that works … I blog, I’m calmer. I blog, I’m more creative. I blog, I’m less anxious. I blog, I’m so much more organized and productive. So I guess in that case my crack analogy falls short. Besides maybe making one a little calmer, I can’t imagine it has any of the other aforementioned benefits. OK, please forgive me with all this crack talk, it’s early, the analogy came to me, so I ran with it.  Moving on …

It’s been an interesting few days here at the Seusses. We’ve been without water for two days so everything is a little ripe — the dishes in the sink, the toilets and us showerless folk. I felt like I was back in the days of Little House on the Prairie. The boys were peeing outside. We retrieved buckets of water from the well (OK it was really our friends outdoor hose) to wash. The laundry was piling up so much, I was contemplating heading down to the stream to do a little washing — I opted to drive to my mom’s and use her washer instead. The electricity was out in half the house so there was no television to lull me to sleep at night, so I was lulled by the natural sounds of crickets and coyotes outside my window. Or at least that’s what I pretended to do. What I really did was grab my laptop and log into Netflix. It’s almost like being lulled to sleep by the sounds of nature. Candles were blazing in the house (we also had lost electricity in parts of the house), but that had more to do with ridding ourselves from the stench of unshowered family members, and less to do with the electricity thing, but since I’ve left the crack analogies behind and moved onto Little House on the Prairie I thought that segued nicely.

Needless to say, the Seusses realized how water dependent they are this week, and it was a tumultuous couple of days.

As I write … I am beginning to realize why I’m not a morning writer. I ramble in the morning, I make up odd analogies and I just spent an entire blog post discussing crack, body odor and extremely ripe toilets. But I feel better just blogging about it all. My readers however have probably run for the hills, and I can see the Unsubscribes lighting up like the switchboard for a radio call-in show. Sorry …

Needless to say, despite my odd choice of topics, I’m back. I’m addicted to this blogging thing and I intend to keep doing it. I’ve got some upcoming book reviews heading your way, a couple of giveaways and lots of Renaissance Ramblings. So bear with me will you, as I find my bearings again. It’ll get better, I promise.

Well you made me laugh too and brought me back to the year 2008 when we had an ice storm and was without water and electricity for 8 days…..Oh how I do love my generator now. I think back in the days of Little House on the Prairie they didn’t know any different, we do. Hope things look up soon. Keep the blogs coming, missed some of your great humor!

Glad somebody’s laughing … Did I mention we have a floor sander here today sanding three main rooms so when I walked downstairs from my office yesterday it looked like we’d been robbed because the entire downstairs was cleared out. We ate take out standing at the island last night and had coffee on the floor in front of the pellet stove this a.m. No wonder I can’t get organized :)
